Why Andy Serkis Would Love To Join The DCEUs Batman Movie

Andy Serkis has a way of finding himself in the most popular franchises with the biggest fandoms. The brilliant actor and performance-capture master has had roles in Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and recently appeared as Ulysses Klaue in the MCU's Black Panther. He also made us fall in love and broke our hearts as Caesar in the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. It is because of his experience with director Matt Reeves on the latter two of those films that Andy Serkis would love to join the director's next film, the upcoming DCEU Batman movie. Andy Serkis spoke about why he'd love to work with Matt Reeves again on The Batman, saying:

Oh, for sure! I mean, I'd go to the edge of the created universe with Matt [Reeves]. I mean, he's the most brilliant director. I would work with anything with him again, y'know, I mean, I absolutely adore him and we're very good friends, close friends, and I think he's an extraordinary director so for sure.

That is pretty effusive praise from Andy Serkis, who has worked with everyone from Peter Jackson to Christopher Nolan to Stephen Spielberg. Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis worked on the final two Planet of the Apes reboot films together, and clearly that was a rewarding experience where the end products speak for themselves. Andy Serkis indicates to JoBlo that he would work with Matt Reeves on any project, but hey, why not The Batman? There is no production that couldn't be elevated by the actor's participation. I'm sure all Matt Reeves would have to do is ask and the MCU veteran would come aboard the eagerly-anticipated rebirth of the Dark Knight.

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the upcoming DCEU Batman movie. We know that it is coming at some point, but when it will arrive, who will be Batman and whether or not it will even be in the current DCEU timeline are all open questions that haven't been fully answered yet. Regardless, we are all stoked to see what Matt Reeves can do with the character, and given the previous collaboration between the actor and director, it's hard not to get excited about the possibilities.

Given how little we know about Matt Reeves' Batman movie, it is hard to say where Andy Serkis would fit in, but I think he would be wasted as anything other than a villain. I don't want to see him as some GCPD officer or henchman, I want to see the cackling craziness he brought to Klaue or the intimidating menace of Snoke. At one point, it was rumored that Scarecrow may be a villain in the DCEU Batman movie, and I could totally see Serkis as Jonathan Crane. Heck, any Batman villain really, minus maybe Bane. While we wait to find out more about the DCEU Batman movie, let the speculation continue and the fan casting begin.

The Batman, or whatever it winds up being called, does not currently have a release date. However you can catch Andy Serkis as Baloo in his darker adaptation of The Jungle Book, Mowgli, in theaters on October 19.




So Serkis is still technically on the table, as is any one else involved with Marvel. It just comes down to brand loyalty. With Klaw not being a huge character, I can see Serkis also doing a Batman movie, but Chris Evans or Downey are probably gonna stay with marvel.

Why Cold Pursuits Tom Bateman Really Loved His Final Scene

Every good action movie needs a villain. Despite not being the main protagonist, it's often the villain that gets the plot moving, and informs the actions by all the rest of the characters. There's a certain amount of pressure to playing a villain, giving the character enough color and interesting backstory to properly capture the attention of moviegoers. And the stake are all the much higher when facing off against Liam Neeson.

Just ask Murder on the Orient Express actor Tom Bateman, who is squaring off against Liam Neeson in the upcoming black comedy/revenge flick Cold Pursuit. Bateman plays Viking, a psychopathic but surprisingly hilarious drug boss who sets the film's plot in motion after being responsible for killing the son of Neeson's character Nels Coxman. I recently spoke to Bateman about his character's fate, and when I asked if he was disappointed over not meeting the end of Coxman's signature snow plow, he told me:

That would have been kind of fun. But I kind of liked the way Liam gets me. Ive never seen that in a film. The tree going through the car is amazing. Its sort of spinning around, and they actually let me do that stunt.

While it would have been cool to be killed off via snow plow (something that surprisingly doesn't happen much in the film), Tom Bateman was still very happy with how his villain ultimately fell. Because it involved an extensive stunt sequence with machinery and cars, the actor was psyched about jumping in and getting his hands dirty.

Cold Pursuit has been billed as a typical Liam Neeson revenge flick, but with a slightly more irreverent tone. That, and it has the 66 year-old action driving a massive snow plow, and presumably mowing down his enemies with it. But the plow isn't used much as a weapon, as Nels dispatches of his enemies in a variety of grisly ways.

In my same conversation with Tom Bateman, he admitted being taken down via plow would have been awesome, saying:

So I quite liked the way I went. But yeah, looking at that snowplow now, it would have been quite fun to be crushed.

I won't spoil exactly how the conflict between Viking and Nels does down, but you can be rest assured that it's not a boring or tepid finale. Much like the final film itself, Cold Pursuit's climax is full of unexpected twists and turns-- even if its lacking in snow plows.

You can judge Viking's death for yourself in just a few days, as Cold Pursuit is about to arrive in theaters, bringing in yet another blockbuster starring Liam Neeson as a revenge-fueled everyman.

Jordan Peele Isn't Too Worried About Us Spoilers

Although not quite as critical as something like The Sixth Sense, Jordan Peeles Get Out is one of those movies that you really didnt want spoiled for you. The writer/directors follow-up Us seems very much cut from a similar cloth, with the early word indicating that there are reveals aplenty in this film. Plus, the marketing campaign is even employing the hashtag #KeepItBetweenUs. That said, Jordan Peele isnt too worried about Us spoilers, as he explained:

People want to keep the secrets. Also, if you spoil something, your friend probably punches you in the shoulder or something. I think we've developed into a culture that respects the idea that spoilers are no fun.

Jordan Peele seems of the belief that spoilers will not be a major problem for Us, not because the film cant be spoiled, but because audiences will do the right thing and keep the films secrets so that other people can enjoy it. Basically, he thinks that people know better and all youd be doing by spoiling the film is making people angry and opening yourself up to some friendly retaliation.

In his comments to Digital Spy, Jordan Peele actually raises quite an interesting point about the culture around spoilers. With the rise of social media, the ability to spoil movies has increased exponentially. B concurrently (and perhaps consequently) a taboo has also risen about spoilers. People now generally agree that spoilers suck. Spoiling a movie for someone else is really poor form and a pretty crappy thing to do, so most people try not to do it.

Jordan Peele also mentioned that this taboo around spoilers makes it fun to have seen a movie and to know its secrets. When you do and refuse to spoil it for someone else, that lends the film an air of mystery that gets other people excited to see it as well, building the buzz and enhancing the experience.

Because of this culture around spoilers, Jordan Peele doesnt see them as being a big issue for his sophomore film. With any luck, hes right. If so and people adhere to common decency and wait for everyone to see Us before discussing it in spoiler-ific detail, especially in a public forum, then there is nothing to worry about and audiences can enjoy the film and have the purest way possible.

By the early reactions out of SXSW, the movie is quite the experience too. Unlike Get Out, Us is true horror movie that will have people watching through their fingers and will give people plenty to discuss when the film ends.

Us is currently enjoying a perfect 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes in advance of this weekends opening so the buzz is definitely high here that this is a good movie showing that Get Out was no fluke. The film is tracking at a $40-$45 million opening weekend.
