The right marketing and advertising plan has the potential to make or break a movie. We've seen how successful advertising benefit movies like Cloverfield and its sequels, drumming up excitement in a major way. No blockbuster in recent memory has had commercials/ posters quite as delightful as Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool. Ahead of the release of the first film, there was a mass of hilarious videos and images of the merc with the mouth. This helped the quirky and fairly new character grab cinephiles' attention, and reach its massive $783.1 million global earnings. Deadpool 2 is doing just the same, and the sequel's latest poster is a hilarious spoof of the 80s classic Flashdance. Check it out.

How hilariously bonkers is that? Let's unpack this fantastic spoof, which will probably not be the last one leading up the highly anticipated release of Deadpool 2.

From first glance, most audience can see that Deadpool is doing his own version of the iconic chair dance from 1983's Flashdance. The movie focuses on aspiring dancer Alex, and one particularly sexy number ends with the protagonist dumping a bucket of water on herself from above. It's a shot that has remained in the pop culture lexicon for the decades since Flashdance arrived in theaters, having been spoofed in a variety of media. Wade Wilson isn't one to be left out, and his version of the chair dance definitely delivers.

Because instead of water falling down upon the psychotic anti-hero, Deadpool makes it rain with bullets. The character is known for his penchant for gunfights, hiding pieces all around his apartment with Blind Al. The caption underneath the hilarious image reads "Take your passion. And make it happen". This is a reference to Flashdance's other big scene, the ending dance which features the Irene Cara song "What A Feeling". Deadpool is a franchise that loves its pop culture references, so it should be no surprise that the latest Deadpool 2 poster is a one two punch of Flashdance jabs.

Admit it: you're picturing Deadpool engaging in the same choreography. Except his ending would probably result in far more dirty jokes and a helping of murder.

It should be interesting to see how Deapdool 2's posters and trailers continue to surprise us in the coming months. With the sequel arriving in just a few months, we're gearing up for an exciting time for the franchise.

Whats Going On With The MoviePass Surge Prices

In an effort to keep the wildly popular theatergoing subscription service afloat, MoviePass recently announced that it would be implementing changes to its business model. One of those changes that subscribers were warned was coming is the addition of surge pricing, similar to Uber, where subscribers would have to pay more for certain showtimes on certain movies. That surge pricing, which MoviePass has dubbed "Peak Pricing," has officially begun rolling out today, so here's what's going on with it and how it works.

The peak pricing goes into effect when there is high demand for a particular movie or showtime. When this happens, users may be asked to pay an additional fee according to the level of demand. As explained by Variety, in MoviePass's example, the listed showtime on the MoviePass app will display a red lightning bolt icon indicating that peak pricing is in effect for that showtime. If subscribers wish to see a showing where peak pricing is in effect, they will be asked to pay an additional fee. Those wishing to avoid the surcharge can choose another movie or showtime. Some showings in the app will also display grey lightning bolt icons, signifying that the listed screening does not currently incur an added fee, but demand is growing. So basically, if you want that one, buy your tickets soon. Over the next few weeks, MoviePass will also be introducing Peak Pass, which will allow subscribers to waive one peak fee per month.

When we first heard about MoviePass implementing surge prices, it was reported that the additional fees would start at $2 as a minimum. The example that MoviePass provided today showed an evening screening of Avengers: Infinity War (at a generic fake theater) being subject to a peak pricing fee of $3.43. MoviePass said that the amount of the surcharge will vary based on the showtime and the movie title. However, what is unclear is just how high the surcharge can go. I'm also not entirely sure if it is just the popularity of the movie and the showtime that determines peak pricing, or if the location plays any role in things.

Now, if you're checking your MoviePass app to see if you'll be charged extra to see Ant-Man and the Wasp tonight, you may not see any of these new icons. That's because the peak pricing is rolling out gradually and may not be in effect in your area yet.

The prospect of paying more is, of course, a bummer for MoviePass subscribers, but if it helps the service to stay in business at an attractive price for consumers, then perhaps it is a win in the long run. Obviously subscribers will have to do their own calculations about whether they want to pay extra to see a particular movie and whether or not this affects their perceived value of the service. Peak pricing isn't the only change MoviePass has in the works either. The service will soon be adding a family plan, as well as an option to upgrade to premium format showings for an additional fee.

How Shazam! Changed An Important Sivana Scene During Its Reshoots

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Shazam! are ahead!

Although the original plan for Shazam! was to have the eponymous protagonist face off against Black Adam, the clash is being saved for the future, as the villain/anti-hero also known as Teth-Adam will first debut in his own movie. Instead, Shazam! used Mark Strongs Doctor Thaddeus Sivana as its main antagonist, and he definitely showed off his intimidation chops.

This was best demonstrated when Sivana killed everyone inside of a boardroom, including his own brother and father, using the Seven Deadly Sins. As it turns out though, that wasnt originally the scene that showed just how frightening Sivana could be. I recently spoke with Michel Aller, the editor of Shazam! and frequent collaborator with director David F. Sandberg, and she informed me that during principal photography, Sivanas display of incredible power happened in a different location. Speaking about the boardroom scene, she said:

It was a later addition. Originally the way Sivana confronts his family was completely different. It was at a Christmas party in his mansion. And so the whole idea of him confronting his family was re-conceived. So that was part of the additional photography.

The Christmas season can be a dramatic time among certain families, but killing your relatives and all the attendees of a holiday party is an entirely different beast. Something like that feels more appropriate during the Airing of Grievances in a Festivus celebration. But as Michel Aller explained to me, during Shazam!s reshoots phase, it was decided to change things up, which is how the boardroom slaughter came to be.

In case you need a refresher, after Thaddeus Sivana, against the wizard Shazams protests, stole the Eye of Sin from the Rock of Eternity and became the new vessel for the Seven Deadly Sins, he traveled to Sivana Industries to confront his father and brother. Both of them had been emotionally abusive towards Thaddeus growing up, with his brother, Sid, blaming him for the accident that paralyzed their father. Now that he had the power to exact revenge, Thaddeus tossed Sid out the window and had the Seven Deadly Sins murder Mr. Sivana and everyone else in the room.

For those curious to see how this massacre was originally supposed to play out at the Christmas party, Michel Aller states that theres a good chance this will be one of the deleted scenes included on the Shazam! home media release, although obviously the visual effects effects wont be complete. In her words:

Yeah, I mean, Ive submitted it and I believe that theyll include that for sure.

Doctor Sivana didnt get to enjoy his partnership with the Seven Deadly Sins for very long in Shazam!. Thanks to the Worlds Mightiest Mortal and his adoptive siblings, who were able to become superheroes thanks to Billy Batson sharing his power, the Sins were contained back in the Eye of Eternity and redeposited to their prison in the Rock of Eternity, which is now officially the Shazam familys lair.

However, dont think this is the last weve seen of Sivana in the DC Extended Universe. In the Shazam! mid-credits scene, he was shown obsessively scrawling ancient runes on the walls of his prison cell, desperately trying to go back to Rock of Eternity to reclaim his lost power. However, he was then approached by Mr. Mind, who promised him that there are other ways to obtain power, and by working together, the two of them will be able to conquer the Seven Realms. In other words, Sivanas days of slaughtering innocents probably arent done yet.
