Apparently Black Panther Fans Have Been Trying To Book Hotels In Wakanda

Like most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Black Panther was set on Earth, but the majority of its action took place in a location unlike anywhere we've ever seen before: Wakanda. Thanks to its supply of vibranium and never being conquered by outside forces, the African nation is more technologically advanced than any other country. Unfortunately, Wakanda is also fictional, but evidently a lot of people who've seen Black Panther over the last month didn't understand that, as they've tried to book hotels located in that territory.

According to Daily Mail, two hotel booking websites have revealed that the amount of people searching for the world "Wakanda" has increased tremendously. Hotelscan.com specifically noted that there's been a 620% increase in people visiting the Wisconsin Wakanda Water Park web page, while Hotels.com has not only seen a 55% year on year increase of people landing on the web page for the neighboring Wakanda Park, but search spikes for other places called Wakanda around the world. Granted, some of these hits might just be people fully aware that the nation of Wakanda doesn't exist and want to see what comes up, but you can bet that there's a good number of folks who are coming to a rude awakening when they visit either of these two websites and discover that they can't vacation within King T'Challa's borders.

Black Panther has cemented itself as one of Marvel's greatest critical and commercial successes, but it's also has a profound effect on general pop culture, and these website searches are the latest example of that. The movie has also led to the town of Wacounda, Illinois being bombarded by prank phone calls, and incidentally, searches for Wacounda (pronounced the same way as Wakanda) on Hotels.com have increased by more than 25%. With Black Panther still dominating at the box office and a sequel surely on the way, it's highly unlikely the public interest in Wakanda will die down anytime soon.

While we'll never be able to visit the vibranium-filled Wakanda, the citizens of the MCU's Earth are just now learning about the country's true nature. At the end of Black Panther, T'Challa established an outreach center in Oakland, California, and in the mid-credits scene, he appeared before the United Nations to reveal what Wakanda is capable of. Wakanda spent centuries being largely isolated from the rest of the world, and with its borders now open, this marks a bold new era for the nation. So perhaps in the MCU, people browsing through Hotelscan.com or Hotels.com will soon be able to plan a trip to Wakanda.

Black Panther is still playing in theaters, and for those of you interested in another look at Wakanda, you'll get that opportunity when Avengers: Infinity War opens on May 4.

Zachary Levi Actually Wanted His Thor Character Killed Off

It's a very exciting time for Zachary Levi. His debut in the DC Universe is just months away, as Andy F. Sandberg's Shazam! is the next blockbuster coming down the pipeline for Warner Bros. Levi will be starring as the adult half of Billy Batson, as the 14-year old boy is able to transform into the caped hero. But this isn't Levi's first time playing a comic book character, previously appearing in the Thor: The Dark World and Ragnarok as Asgardian warrior Fandral.

Fandral only appeared briefly in Ragnarok, before promptly being murdered by Cate Blanchett's Hela. But it turns out that's exactly what Zachary Levi was hoping for, as it ultimately freed up his schedule for Shazam! CinemaBlend's Dirk Libbey was at the Shazam! set visit, where Levi spoke about his Marvel character, saying:

When I got cast as Fandral in [Thor: The Dark World], though I wasnt able to do it, I knew that the Warriors Three could be really fun characters if they ever developed them. They just didnt. They didnt.

While the Warriors Three were connective tissue that linked all three Thor movies, it seems the experience left something to be desired for Zachary Levi. Because so much of the movies are focused on the relationship between Thor and his siblings, there just wasn't enough time for Fandral and the others.

Zachary Levi didn't play Fandral in the original Thor movie, as it was played by Once Upon A Time actor Josh Dallas. His contract playing Prince Charming ultimately stopped him from playing the part again, with Levi taking on the mantle for Thor: The Dark World. The Warriors Three (most of them) were killed off without much fuss in Ragnarok, which is exactly what Levi was hoping for.

Because if Fandral survived to appear in the opening sequence of Avengers: Infinity War, it likely would have stopped him from playing the title role of Shazam! So the timing worked out perfectly, and Levi was able to pivot over to DC. As he tells it,

But then the truth is, to be honest, if let's say Fandral was still alive and let's say they had me to be in the Avengers, I'd probably be sitting in Atlanta for three months doing almost nothing while everyone else [worked]...and then they'd be, 'Okay now we're ready for you and you guys go in.' And then we'd get killed then. So the way it all worked out is it exactly the way it was supposed to.

The filmmaking world is ever changing, especially when it comes to massive shared universes like the MCU and DC Universe. This can both hurt and help artists, and Zachary Levi seems to be the latter. He'll get his moment to shine with Shazam!, and the buzz for the upcoming blockbuster is at a fever pitch.

Dog Days Actually Cast All Of Its Canine Characters Before Any Of The Humans

In case you couldn't tell by the title, dogs are a pretty crucial part of the new movie Dog Days. The movie weaves together five different stories set in Los Angeles, and one key thing all of them have in common is a special four-legged friend. This obviously made it very important for the production to find the best of the best when it came to animal talent -- and director Ken Marino recently told me that they were so key that they came on-board before any of the human stars:

I met some animal trainers, dog trainers, and we hired this guy, Mark Gordon, and he was great! And I said, 'Who you are your rock stars? Who are the dogs you're like, 'There's something special about this dog.' And so he immediately showed me a picture of the dog that plays Charlie, whose name I'm forgetting right now, but a great dog - the Goldendoodle. He was just quirky and weird and funny and awkward, and perfect. So I was like, 'Well, tell me the things that he does, and we'll write towards that.' And then we sort of started casting around that dog. The dogs were actually cast before the human actors were cast.

Dog Days held its domestic press junket this past week in Los Angeles, and it was during my sit down with Ken Marino that I learned about the unique casting strategy that the romantic comedy took collecting its ensemble. Evidently the film found it necessary to not only prioritize getting the dogs before bringing in the humans, but they even had an important impact on the script -- as their special abilities wound up dictating what they would ultimately be doing in the story.

The dog Ken Marino singles out, Charlie, is the one that is paired with Adam Pally's character, Dax, in the film. Dax is a lazy, irresponsible layabout, and he finds his lifestyle upended when his sister (Jessica St. Clair) and her husband (Thomas Lennon) have twins and need him to take care of their pet. It's a problematic situation because Dax lives in a building with a "no animals" policy, but also because Charlie is the kind of dog who does what he wants when he wants to: he'll flop right on top of Dax at a random moment, take forever on walks sniffing things, and wake him up early in the morning. It's definitely a part that requires a trained animal, and the dog that plays Charlie does a wonderful job.

While season 2 isn't as good as the first season (they try to juggle to many 'main characters') I would recommend Dog Days to anyone looking for a cute entertaining anime.

In summary, Dog Days feels like a missed opportunity. It deserves credit for avoiding the kinds of gratuitous gross-out gags that fill so many PG-13 and R-rated comedies these days.
